Religions and Values – Central and Eastern European Research Network
The REVACERN Coordination Action, which is supported by the Framework Programme 6 of the European Commission, deals with the research of values and religions in Central and Eastern Europe. Since 2007, in the research network there are 14 partner institutions cooperating. The aim of the network is to update knowledge about religious and value processes of the area from the last twenty years and to explore regional correlations. The programme is practical in nature; it tries to make the knowledge about the complex processes transparent and manageable for the political and cultural decision makers. The project is coordinated by the Department for the Study of Religions, University of Szeged.
The following sub-fields are explored within the framework of REVACERN:
- Religiosity – values and moralities (Key note referate abstract - R. Polak, T. Podolinská, PPT)
- New religious phenomena and religious renewal
- Orthodoxy in Central and Eastern Europe (Key note referate: D. Kalkandijeva)
- Religion and media
- The correlations of religious and
national-ethnic identity (Key note referate: M. Tomka)
- Social activities of religious communities and
civil organisations (Key note referate abstract: G. Rosta)
- Values and religions in education (Key note referate: G. Pusztai)
-
Legal status of religious communities (Key note referate: S. Zrinščak)
The conference does not only provide a professional overview of the religious and value processes of the region, but also offers an opportunity for making and strengthening relationships among the researchers of the region.

Conference Programme
The second – work in progress – conference of the research network will be held in Szeged on 24-26 April, 2008. The conference serves three goals:
- A first presentation and debate of the results of Aufbruch 2 research
- Presentation and debate of thematic plans of REVACERN subarea workshops
- Presentation and debate of the
lectures of the First round of the REVACERN Exchange Programme
According to its original plans, REVACERN wishes to invite the experts dealing with the topics of religions and values in Central and Eastern Europe to a dialogue and present their related knowledge base to the public.
In the forenoon of the first day of the conference, the two leaders of Aufbruch 2, Paul. M. Zulehner (University of Vienna) and Miklós Tomka (Péter Pázmány Catholic University, Budapest) will present the first results of the research. Both lectures will be followed by panel debate, and renowned experts of the field will be asked to be discussants.
In the afternoon and on the second day of the conference, the experts of each subarea will present the topics of the subarea of REVACERN and offer them for debate. Three 30 minute lectures will be given in the forenoon and two in the afternoon, all followed by public debates. At the end of both days, and also following dinner, free discussions may take place in connection with organisational issues of the subareas, only with the participation of the cooperating researchers.
In the forenoon of the third day,
REVACERN consortium holds its closed session. In the afternoon, the grantees of
the Exchange Program report on their activities during the supported period,
